Opnext Goes Green with New Blue Laser Diode

The Optoelectronics Company, a distributor of innovative optoelectronic components, is pleased to announce the release of Opnext’s first blue laser diode which consumes 30 per cent less power than existing, commercially available blue lasers.
The Opnext HL45023TG blue laser diode is the first of a range of blue laser diodes being developed by Opnext and offers high optical output power of 60mW at a wavelength of 445nm in a tiny 3.8mm package. It has been designed for the growing market in mobile pico projector applications as well as embedded device applications where a pico projector image capability is integrated into a mobile phone. Pico projector module manufacturers can improve their RGB module by using red and blue laser diodes from Opnext which are specifically suited to their requirements, offering improved image quality and three times the brightness of a typical tablet screen while using only half the power.
The Opnext HL45023TG 445nm blue laser diode is available in a tiny 3.8mm package with single transverse mode oscillation, high optical output power of 60mW, low operating current of 90mA and low operating voltage of 5V.
Opnext has also just introduced a high power GaN violet laser diode for direct imaging applications for PCBs and other industrial applications. The Opnext HL40023MG offers very high optical output power of 500mW in the 405nm wavelength band with violet lasing from 398 – 410nm in a 5.6mm package with low operating current of 390mA and low operating voltage of 5.5V. It has multi transverse mode oscillation.
Both new diodes have been designed to consume less power, resulting in extended battery operation, lower power consumption and greater economy.
With more than 30 years of industry experience, Opnext offers a comprehensive line-up of laser diodes from 404nm through 852nm and output power ranges from 5mW to 500mW. These high quality and reliable products feature high power, low operating current, circular and multi-beam options, and high performance infrared.
